I sought to contract over an extended period of time with Mr Piwowar for home repair and renovation and several issues arose during that process that were very troubling to say the least. Mr Piwowar made several statements disclosing an advisory board capacity with the Better Business Bureau of Northern Illinois and at the time I had an active complaint with the Better Business Bureau of Northern Illinois. Mr Piwowar did view my house and made specific statements about the work that Mr Piwowar felt was required and about the quality and workmanship about the existing materials installation. Mr Piwowar provided several estimates as he and I discussed the renovation work. I had a few contractors look at the house and all provide estimates and advice as well. Initially no contract was formed and subsequently Mr Piwowar was informed that another contractor was selected. Within minutes of that disclosure to Mr Piwowar I was contacted by the Center for a Conflict Resolution related to the BBB complaint that was in process and I thought that was odd. Soon after Mr Piwowar began to send me a number emails with derogatory information about the contractor that I had selected. Mr Piwowar was somewhat relentless and I began to become concerned about what may be happening with the BBB complaint. Given this inconsistencies I cancelled the contract with the primary contractor and asked Mr Piwowar for another meeting at the house. Mr Piwowar met with me and I was somewhat confused with his demeanor. Mr Piwowar held his phone very close to me the entire time - I thought that was bizarre. I presented Mr Piwowar with a contract addendum as is recommended by the Attorney General of Illinois with a recommended subcontractor disclose statement and a written statement disclosing the active BBB complaint. Mr Piwowar fundamentally denied any conflict of interest. Later I contacted the International Association of Better Business Bureaus and learned that Mr Piwowar BBB position does create a very clear conflict of interest. Mr Piwowar also asked for and took an initial payment check of $4200 without honoring the subcontractor disclosure; so at that point Mr Piwowar was in violation of a very clear and well known civil statute. Prior to forming the contract, Mr Piwowar stated to me that all his work is done by two subcontractors. Within minutes I found that Mr Piwowar had deposited the check and that appeared, again, very comcerning. Prior to all of this Mr Piwowar stated to me that the BBB would just make initial contractor "redo it all" and Mr Piwowar had already made very very specific statements impeaching the work and installation practices of the existing work contractor. Shortly after and within 3 days I sought to cancel the ReNew contract and sent the information, as required by Mr Piwowar to him in the US mail. Mr Piwowar refused to accept the US Mail delivery which may indicate something related to what Mr Piwowar may or may not have known about what had transpired. I would not seek to contract with Mr Piwowar again and asked Mr Piwowar not to contact me again. At least twice since that request I received text message contacts from Mr Piwowar. It looks like this business tries to report negative true reviews to change its real Google Maps ratings and that would not be inconsistent with the business practices I have seen from the owner.
